Yarra Valley magic!

The GMWC toured the Yarra Valley for its 2018 Field Trip.

As Danno was stranded in Japan, three of us headed east of Melbourne (20 to 21 October) for a weekend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

We stayed on a hill in Gruyere and visited five wineries over two days: Punt Road; Oakridge; Giant Steps; Coldstream Hills; and Yarra Yering.

The highlight? A meet-and-greet with wine writer and industry legend, James Halliday.

Halliday met us on the Sunday at Coldstream Hills, as we sampled wines at the cellar door. He shared with us his thoughts on a range of subjects and, at 80 years of age, was full of life and vigour. It was an inspiring morning.

Afterwards, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the winery’s ‘Amphitheatre’ block – steep rows of verdant vines, rising in a circle, above a shallow lake.

A special weekend.
