Hmm, I'm all for supporting the winery direct but what do you do when you see online wine shops selling for less $ than some of the cellar doors?

Wow time flies when you're drinking great wine. That year sure went quick!

Top wines of the day shows how far we've come. But don't worry, Shiraz will bounce back into the top 3 next year...

The other obvious outlets are winery cellar doors. there are lots of them close to Melbourne - Werribee, Sunbury, Yarra Valley, mornington - and I reckon their wine always tastes better when you've trodden the winery floor boards, spoken with the staff and motored home past the vines. Meanwhile, Seddon Wine Store gets my vote! Curly

A couple of bottles of the Bests made it into the cellar. Hopefully they get to rest for a few of years.

A lazy 89 minute video...yikes!

Sounds like something to watch on a Sunday evening, cuddled up next to a bottle of Shiraz.

Nice drop! And that attachment, too, is a handy guide to assessing wine: colour; nose; palate; etc. Good work. The really interesting thing about that wine is the low - very low - alcohol. That, in part, is its cool climate origin: the ripeness of the fruit is low (meaning sugar/sweetness is low), which lowers alcohol and tends to result in a more earthy, savoury pinot. Low alcohol would also suggest they were really particular about the fermentation process - temperature control, especially. But if the fruit is good, there should be no problems. In fact, I prefer that in my Pinot: less alcohol fumes up your nose usually means greater aromatics. The French oak? I'm guessing you got a mild vanilla note on the palette, too? I hope you weren't required to share that wine...

Statz is right: Go for it! You won't buy this Guide any cheaper. And you MUST have a copy: it's the Aussie wine bible and you'll learn an enormous amount in no time. Buy it! Curly
