Mitchelton Botrytis Riesling

Given how much we loved it, it would be tragic if I didn’t post about Mitchelton Blackwood Park Botrytis Riesling on our blog.

On our group visit to Mitchelton winery we snaffled several bottles of their Botrytis Riesling on our way out the door after we sampled it (along with their excellent riesling, marsanne and shiraz).

From the Mitchelton website:

Mitchelton Blackwood Park Botrytis Riesling is sourced from two estate blocks adjacent to the Goulburn River. These locations are conducive to Autumn morning mists, encouraging the growth of Botrytis cinerea (Noble Rot) which dehydrates the berries effectively concentrating the natural sugar and acidity.

Curly serves up a glass of botrytis riesling. Cheers!

Curly was kind enough to open his bottle of the riesling in the carpark and served it up for all to enjoy.

The perfect venue and a great end to our visit.

Enjoying the sweet honey and mandarin flavours while standing next to the Mitchelton vines and the Goulburn, and looking up at the distinctive architecture of the Ted Ashton designed winery building and its 55m tower.

A great way to end the day and to finish off a long tasting session. After numerous flavours and tannins something sweet like this was perfect. Makes it a delicious dessert wine to have at home too. Very reasonably priced at around $20 (seen it even cheaper online) grab yourself some when you next see it.
